ISO 9001 – Quality Management Systems (QMS)

ISO 9001 – Quality Management Systems (QMS) is the world’s most widely used standard for improving how organizations deliver consistent, high-quality products and services. It focuses on meeting customer expectations, improving processes, and driving continuous improvement.

It’s a framework that enables businesses, charities and public bodies to consistently meet customer and regulatory requirements, while enhancing overall performance. The heart of ISO 9001 certification is a Quality Management System, or QMS. This serves as a blueprint for businesses to improve their processes, reduce errors, and deliver products and services that exceed customer expectations.

ISO 9001 is a document that defines the framework and the criteria for an organisations “quality management system”.

As part of the year 2000 revisions, the ISO 9001 standard adopted a number of principles, one of which is called the “process approach”.  The process approach means the systems should be developed around your existing processes and activities, we would say, they should reflect the way your work works.

The full list of principles now include:

Customer focus

Leadership

Involvement of people

The process approach

Continual improvement

A systems approach to management

Factual approach to decisions

Mutual beneficial supplier relationships

ISO 22301 – Business Continuity Management (BCMS)

ISO 22301 – Business Continuity Management Systems (BCMS) is the international standard for ensuring an organization can continue operating during and after disruptions—like cyberattacks, power outages, natural disasters, or supply chain failures.

The ISO 22301 standard provides a framework for systematically identifying and processing all risks within an organisation and then developing strategies, processes and practices for avoiding and mitigating them.

The standard specifies the requirements necessary to implement, maintain and improve a management system to protect the organisation against disruptions.  The implementation stages would include:

Identifying risk

Assessing the probability of risk

Preparing for eventualities

Responding to events

Reducing the likelihood and severity of any event

Recovering from disruption
